Student Affairs – Winter Student Forum: Discussing  the State of California’s disinvestment in public education

“Dear Student Leaders,

Fall events on UC campuses have highlighted the growing frustration and anger at the nation’s economic situation and, in particular, the State of California’s disinvestment in public education.

ASUCI President Vikram Nayudu and AGS President Payel Chowdhury would like to invite you to join us in discussing these critical issues.  We are holding two gatherings to share information, hear your views, and collect your ideas and input.

Budget Challenges:  Impact on Services and Support to UCI Students

Wednesday, January 11, 2012 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in Pacific Ballroom C

Dr. Thomas Parham, Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs and Meredith Michaels, Vice Chancellor, Planning and Budget will present on how reductions to the UC budget will impact student services.  In small break-out groups, students will have the opportunity to dialogue with campus decision-makers, provide recommendations for critical services and staffing support in the face of additional cuts, and offer their insights on how to continue to foster student leadership development in the current difficult budget climate.

Presenters: Dr. Thomas Parham, Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs and Meredith Michaels, Vice Chancellor, Planning and Budget

Other UCI administrators including Dr. Rameen Talesh, Assistant Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students; and Brice Kikuchi, Budget Officer, Student Affairs will participate in the group discussions.

Pizza will be served.

Constructive Engagement: Protest Amid National Frustration

Monday, January 23, 2012 from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm in Crystal Cove Auditorium.

At this forum, students will hear from campus administrators regarding UC Irvine’s support for student engagement in both national and local issues, and how students can express their viewpoints under the protection of campus policy.

Presenters: Dr. Thomas Parham, Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs; Dan Dooros, Associate Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs; Paul Henisey, Chief of Police; Dr. Rameen Talesh, Assistant Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students; and Edgar Dormitorio, Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Student Conduct
